Society of Actuaries Designates Toronto’s York University as Center of Actuarial Excellence
Chicago, IL, February 6, 2025 —The Society of Actuaries (SOA) announces the actuarial program at York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as an SOA Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE). The SOA launched the CAE designation in 2009, recognizing universities around the world for their strong actuarial programs.
“York University’s program guides future actuaries to successful careers and gives them the foundation they need to become business leaders and trusted professionals that offer effective solutions to the world’s ever-evolving risks,” stated Jessica Morse, SOA CAE Evaluation Committee Chairperson. “The SOA commends York University for their rigorous actuarial program and congratulates them on receiving the CAE designation.”
With the addition of York University, there are 43 CAE universities spanning four continents, with nine now in Canada, 22 in the U.S., five in Australia, two in China, two in Hong Kong, one in Singapore, and two in the United Kingdom.
To qualify for the CAE designation, actuarial programs must meet eight main criteria, along with other requirements. The criteria encompass appropriate degree and curriculum offerings, graduate count, faculty composition, quality of graduates, appropriate integration with other areas of study, connection to industry, and research and professional involvement. Universities retain the CAE designation for five years, after which renewal is subject to compliance with the CAE criteria. Learn more about the SOA’s CAE program.
